4k hesitation - solved!
Just an update in case anyone is searching with similar symptoms.
Had a large hiccup/hesitation at 4k revs for a while and noticed the car seemed a little bit less eager to pull through the revs. Not really got round to sorting it of late, however I have been avoiding going to 4k as it was so disconcerting meaning that I was not driving how I wanted to!
Top suspect was the Disa valve so I ordered a rebuild kit and took it apart today. It actually looked in very good condition, it was just the o-Ring that was flat as a pancake. Considered leaving it be but decided that it would break one day so may as well rebuild it.
Well, what can I say - the car feels that much smoother that it's noticeable and the 4k stutter/hesitation has gone completely!
Totally worth the hours labour (yes, it took me ages to get the old flap out!) and £60.
Anyway, in case anyone else has the same issue, it's the DISA!

I concur with the cremegg. Had a stutter between 2 and 3k revs. Changed the plugs which needed doing anyway then the Coils but no change. Removed disa as had a slight rattle but pin was good. Bought x8r rebuild disa kit just to get rid of the rattle and behold, stutter gone.
Lots recommend looking at plugs, coil, maf, vanos, Camshaft sensor, intake hose leak etc etc but disa should not be ruled out.

First of all - thanks for feeding back to the community. So many people come on here looking for advice for free then never come back when it's sorted to say what did or didn't work. Admittedly it's usually the newbies that do that.
This is defo one for the records - it is surprising that it makes such a big difference to the smooth running of the car, after all the purpose of the DISA is just to 'tune' the intake length to get better torque in specific parts of the rev range. You wouldn't think it was cause something akin to a misfire.

Absolutely DISA service has been to date the most satisfying and rewarding job I've done on the car!
Great to hear it fixed your problem - I can imagine how awesome it feels now as I had a similar reaction

This was two years ago, but why shouldn't we all still be happy?

Thought I recognised this thread title! I would of course everyone replaces their DISAs out of principle anyway given they tendency to break, but on this occasion it also helped fix the issue of the stutter weirdly.
Another top tip (disclaimer: I have no evidence for why this happened) it seems that since replacing my battery I now get an extra 50 miles to a tank. Distinctly odd but I now get around 300 whereas before it was 250-260 if I was lucky. Witchcraft obviously.

Did the DISA valve with an uprated steel version early on in my old 3.0 ownership as a preventative measure, as its failure can be .... let’s say catastrophic & expensive.
Can only say my old 3.0 was always eager & responsive - did a DIY & for a novice it was of medium/easy complexity, just be careful not to over-tighten bolts
