Code Reader/Reset Tool

Post by AndyS » Mon May 16, 2016 9:45 am

Hi,
I have the dreaded Airbag light on my dash.
Parked the car on the drive Friday afternoon with no light. Got in it yesterday to go and get fuel and the airbag light is on :o
Anyway, I'm looking for a diagnostic tool, capable of diagnosing and resetting the airbag light without going down the laptop route.
Found three potential candidates but I'm wondering which would be best.
C110 Scanner
C310 Scanner
Icarsoft i910-II
Any other option I don't yet know about.
Not too worried about cost (within reason!) but would like the most versatile tool to also cover a possible future E89 purchase and my son's 3 series.
Thanks for your help and advice.

Thanks for the replies so far but interestingly, I have a 2004 2.5 so possible the C110 won't work for me either.
Is anyone able to confirm?

I originally bought INPA etc and the cable from the recommended BCables, but it was a right PITA, always starting up and telling me I had the wrong screen resolution etc.

My own Bluetooth dongle would not read any codes other than basic engine ones. I got pee'd off with the BCables one, so returned it for a refund and bought the Carly for BMW app (£40) and the genuine USB lead (£29) This works a treat on my Galaxy S7 Edge, I've turned off the airbag light after removing the passenger door airbag when repairing the window winder mech last week, and also turned on a lot of the options like disarm flash, windows work when doors open and a good few others. Simple to use and programming can be done in a minute. Apparently the E85/E86 WILL NOT work with the Carly Bluetooth dongle, so they recommend the USB which comes with the adaptor to connect to Micro USB on your phone/tablet. It's also available for CrApple devices too. I like the fact that it's always with me, as I keep the lead in the boot. The USB version will also work perfectly with an E89 and your son's car too.

Highly recommended from me.

Mike

Looking like the C110 could be the way to go then.

So just to give people an update......
The C110 arrived and out to the car I went, full of anticipation.
It was, however, short lived as the option to find an airbag fault code or extinguish the light didn't!!
Deflated, I went back indoors to contemplate the situation.
I discovered a YouTube video which suggested checking all sorts of other menus to reset the airbag light.
Off out to the car again with renewed enthusiasm.
A short time later and the airbag light is out!
Just for info, my fault code was lurking in the following sub menu:
SBSR [Satellite, B-pillar, right]
The fault given was:
98D5 Resistance, firing circuit, front airbag, right (E85), or passenger airbag (e6x), stage 2, too high
I have no idea what the code is referring to but the light hasn't been back on since resetting it so keeping my fingers crossed.

Yes the C110 isn't the most intuitive device but does the job. Glad it's sorted.

Sorry of the possible hijack, but has anyone tried the torque pro app on a Z....

I just remembered I have it installed on my phone and have to Bluetooth OBDII thingy used it to read and clear codes on my jag and hyundai but never actually needed to try it on my Z guessing it would just work the same way and the cost all in for the app and bluetooth OBD adaptor was less than a tenner when I got it a few years ago

85genius

I have the free Torque version & a cheapo BT ODBII dongle and it connects okay to my 3.0si E86. I have only done things like setup dashboards for revs, oil temp etc. I haven't read or cleared any codes, but then I haven't had any to read or clear. Pretty sure it's worth a punt.

Cheers
