Re: Sticky Steering now FIXED!!!!!!!
Hello,
I too have this sticky steering problem that occurs particularly when hot but never fully returns to 'normal'. I have read accounts elsewhere concerning the fix and have the tools necessary. But I would really like some photos and a step-by-step account of the fix. For instance how does the panel under the steering column remove? There's a lot of plastic around the steering column but no obvious way to remove it!
Please could some kind person send me the pics and instructions?
Many Thanks...

I can't do the photos for you, however there are 3 screw at the bottom of the main panel and 1 that holds the smaller cowel.

Its not a proper 'How to' but I do have some notes which were sufficient for a non specialist (but good) general mechanic, if you PM me your email address I would be happy to send you a copydursley wrote:Hello,

Don't waste your time with the grease nipple thing. It's like a bandage on a brain tumor, doesn't fix the actual problem and is harder to do than the actual adjustment.

So what’s the remedy ? A new steering column or some kind of adjustment ?
I’ve read the steering column is not serviceable ?
If it is / not, I’d love some info on how or companies that specialise in fixing the z4 pre 2006 steering column.
Any info would be greatly appreciated !

Sticky Steering now FIXED!!!!!!!
Well thanks for the tip.
I now have the sticky steering issue, first of all was it a lasting fix and secondly how did you avoid residual metal filings or dirt from getting in the worm gear box when installing the nipple?
because if it worked it would save me 3 grand.
Thanks

The grease nipple mod isn't generally regarding to be the best way to fix sticky steering these days. The eccentric ring motor adjustment which is dead easy to do is. Have a read of the thread linked in the post above yours as it's well documented in thereJNC wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 8:10 pm Well thanks for the tip.

Aloha,
Writing from Kona HI to nfarmer I know it has been a while since your post of the sticky steering fix. My z4 has the exact same issue and our dealer is willing to do the job if I can get more details as to what, where and how to install the nipple and lube type. He needs as many specifics as possible. If you are still out there reading these posts please reply. pm or to my own email [email protected]
Many thanks!

Sticky Steering now FIXED!!!!!!!
nfarmer, nfarmer, Hello Nfarmer, i am trying to fix the sticky steering in my 05 3.0i, i greased all joints and moved the collar towards driver about 10mm. it has improved but i think it´ll need some greasing. If you could send me the greasing tips by email, i will be very grateful. [email protected]
Thanks in advance!

The greasing method discussed is not the right solution, and you risk causing damage. Adjusting the collar is the correct approach - it sounds like you perhaps just haven't adjusted as much as necessary yet.Gintaker wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 8:58 pm nfarmer, nfarmer, Hello Nfarmer, i am trying to fix the sticky steering in my 05 3.0i, i greased all joints and moved the collar towards driver about 10mm. it has improved but i think it´ll need some greasing.
