Can't manually release roof

Post by leisurepleasure » Sat Sep 04, 2021 9:03 pm

Hi,
Main roof motor has failed and am trying to release roof using handle in boot, with no luck. Pulled it pretty hard. Any suggestions? Cheers

It maybe seized & need freeing off, you need to remove it to do this. There’s lots on here about reviving roof motors if you use the search function

Can't manually release roof

Post by enuff_zed » Sun Sep 05, 2021 12:11 pm

Just checking?
Has the front disengaged from the top of the windscreen ok?
The failed roof motor won't sort that?
If it has then ignore me.
If it hasn't then you have a separate issue at the front end.

Yes front has disengaged ok as a separate motor I assume.
Main roof motor has failed and just trying to disengage roof from it so I can put it up and down manually.

Fine, just wanted to clarify.
Then yes, you need the motor hoicked out of it's hiding place first. you'll quite possibly find it can then be revived and the manual bypass valve freed off. Until then you're stuffed I suspect.
If you say where you are we can probably point you in the direction of the nearest expert.

Can't manually release roof

Post by leisurepleasure » Sun Sep 05, 2021 3:40 pm

Thanks. There's a manual release in the boot (red plastic loop) but have pulled it out and turned it as per usage instructions but it still won't release roof. I've noticed the roof cables run around the outside of the umbrella shelf (below the rear window) so not sure if I can pull one of those instead? Does anyone know of any other way I can release it without removing roof? Cheers

It’s possible to remove the motor without removing the roof, it’s done from the boot - lots on here about it if you use the search function
