Key won't open work with central locking

Post by Niallc » Sat May 22, 2021 4:42 pm

Hi Guys,

My key stopped working with the central locking. Its from 2003 and so I changed the battery for a new one. Tried it out and still not working.

Its a rechargeable battery so maybe do i need to use it while driving to charge it up?

Has anyone any suggestions?

Thanks

When you changed the battery did you dislodge the transponder??

Hi

I don’t think so. I unsoldered the old one and soldered in the new one.

I’m going to try a different battery tomorrow

Hi,
Just for info; the transponder and central locking functionality of the key are two completely independent systems. I assume the key still starts the car? If so the transponder chipset must still be intact.
Did you carry out the pairing procedure after replacing the key?
The memory in the key is volatile, so when the battery dies it can easily forget which car it is meant to be unlocking!
The pairing procedure is quick and simple. No tools required.

Thanks fro that info. I tried the pairing and it worked :)

The only problem is that the other key has stopped working. When I pair that one , the first one stops working.

I must be missing one step in the process :)

Glad you got it sorted

There are two slightly different pairing procedures to follow, depending on if you wish to add a key or remove all and start again.
The best way to do this is to have all keys present and pair them both one after the other, within 30 seconds or so.
After you press the buttons on the first key, and the doors cycle, you then press the buttons on the seconds key (doors cycle again). Both should now work.
It's a fickle system for some reason!!

 Yep you have to pair all keys at the same time.

Leave key(s) overnight on your toothbrush charger, ensuring it’s logo-side up, and maximising contact area (pop something underneath the metal key to keep it level). They use the same recharging components.
