2004 E85 issue

Post by MCrid » Sat May 01, 2021 3:39 pm

Hi all looking for any advice on an issue that has recently arisen with my 2004 2.2 E85.

Engine starts and runs absolutely fine there are no performance issues.

After about 3 minutes of driving or idling the dashboard display gets really dim, the dials light up, almost as if the headlights appear on (but they aren't).

The indicators inside do not look like they are working (they are from the outside) no clicking or illumination when stalk is up or down.

Upon turning off the engine, the dials still appear to be on but upon turning the engine on and off it goes away.

The CD player (original business CD) clock is stopped at the time the display goes dim (still registers the time, it just doesn't change).

The doors no longer auto lock when above 10 mph and when exiting the car, the fob no longer locks the car or opens the boot although the button inside still opens it.

Voltage on the battery is 12.5v and 14.16v when engine off and idling so I think the battery is OK.

Anyone ever had a similar issue?

Many thanks for any advice.

Mark

Diagnostics would probably be the first thing to do Mark, via the OBD2 socket between the door & steering wheel, at least I think that's where it is on my car.

Get the battery checked.

Are there any Mods that have been done to the car that might be pulling too much power?

Water in the footwells from a leaky door membrane shorting something out? Are the carpets dry?

Thanks all. Think it was the battery. Changed it and all seems good again

Will update thread if anything further occurs
