A morning of DIY stuff on the project has thrown up some more issues- your views please!
All progressing well with interior stuff (trim fixing seat work etc)- fitted the gap tech module and went to test; however the roof action stuttered and stopped. First issue is a flat battery! FFS
Jump start, now the roof won't move and has top flashing red, but it cycled enough to be 'up' not half way. Closed the roof using allen key.
Question 1- when I fit a new battery, as i have manually closed it, do I need to do anything to cycle/reset the roof?
When it was iding to get some charge back in the battery I noticed smoke from the exhaust side of the head- looks like an oil leak from around cylinder 5 or 6 onto the exhaust
Question 2- is this likely to be a head cover gasket leak- as I am doing this when I do the VANOS, OR should I be looking for anything else

Rubbish morning
All minor issues. A PITA but do-able.
Smoke sounds like cam cover gasket. Will be oil burning off from the header.
Changing in a new gasket will stop the leak but it sounds like you may have accumulated some oil drippage which will continue to burn off unless you get in all the nooks anc crannies to clean it.
Feel around the back of the engine on the overhand where the head meets the block. That's where oil usually accumulates the most. You wont be able to see it but you can reach down there with your fingers. If you pull them out covered in oil then its gasketfuntime!
For the roof suggest you unhook battery 30 min then re-try. Make sure your battery is up to snuff with at least 12v at rest.

New battery in
Now roof light still flashing (top red)
Do I need to reset it in any way before it works again OR have I cocked up the gap tech install?

Rubbish morning
Did you cycle the roof up and down.
When my battery died. The roof was down, I pulled it up manually to keep possible rain out. Then changed the battery. Had to cycle the roof down and then back up again before it was happy. Hope that works for you too.

I guess sometimes you just have to go back to route one
Checked the micro switch/parcel shelf
Sodding thing moved
Think I need to investigate this area as it appears to be temperamental
