Z4 2004 Roof not working-orange light

Post by degsy005 » Sun Mar 14, 2021 1:07 am

Hi Everyone

My Electric Roof was working perfectly until I had my rear Shockers replaced (aswell as fan belt, 02 sensors and gasket)at my Local Garage-When I collected my Car I discovered an orange light when I pressed the button to bring down the roof.

The Garage said they didn't interfere with the roof.

Is there anyone that can fix it for a fee?

I believe it might be the Microswitch. Was working perfectly prior to having work done on my car so think the Mechanic has maybe disturbed the electrics/microswitch.

Also my new rear Shock Absorbers are a bit squeaky! Is that normal?

Im Based in Hackney

Best
Derek

Check your rear shelf is in the lowest position.

If the windows drop and the roof unlatches it’s not the micro switch. If there’s no window or roof action whatsoever, there’s likely a micro switch issue. Easy and cheap to fix. It takes less than 5 minutes to replace.

I grew up in Hackney.

As mentioned, could be Microswitch Or Roof alignment issue?

Sometimes the roof can get slightly out if alignment, someone who knows what they're doing, should be able to adjust the roof mechanism brackets, until it's properly aligned.

If it was working fine before you took it to the garage, it sounds like they have done/disturbed something.
Check out the forum members who do roof repairs in the south of England
You shouldn't get any noise from the rear end, especially after having new shocks fitted.
Phone the garage and tell them about the issues.
See what they say.
Don't think I would let them near my car though

They will have moved the shelf to access the shocks top mounts, so it’s bound to be an issue with the micro switch.

Test it by shorting the circuit. It’s looking for a closed circuit.

I’d put my money on the fact that they’ve dislodged the little steel lever in the slot on the rear bulkhead , when refitting the shelf

Ah, that’ll be the “shelf thingybob” then

Thanks everyone for your response
I have told the Garage and been back but they are unable to help me,they don't know what to do . Also I don't trust them.

If there is anyone in the South that does roof repairs please get in contact.

I don't know anything about cars so cant do it myself.
thanks

Jeez!
Name and shame! Don't think anyone should be considering taking a Z there.
I'd be thinking Ross at RBM is possibly the closest 'specialist'. I'd also consider having the shock installation double checked at the same time.
HQ of 'Norfolk Zed Rescue'.
Always happy to help if I can.

If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

yeah I definitely need the shockers looked at. Don't like the squeaking noise at all. My car is worse condition since the work!
