Soft clunk on minor bumps

Post by dcslater » Sun Feb 28, 2021 3:10 am

Hello, I have a 2004 E85 with new Bilstein B6's on all four wheels and a three point front upper brace. I have a low clunk that happens when I go over minor road defects, it doesn't seem to come in when going over larger dips or potholes. As far as I can tell, the steering performance hasn't been negatively affected. I've checked all the connections and bushings for the front suspension, all are tight and the rubber is healthy for all bushings. Where should I look next, or is this just normal for the B6's? Thanks in advance!

Additionally, the front springs are also new.

Soft clunk on minor bumps

Hi,

Where does the sound originate from, does it sound like it’s coming from each B6? Or does it sound like it’s coming from the centre of the car towards the rear?

Thanks

Strav

Check the nuts on the V braces that go from the bulk head to the struts. My car needed the nuts tweaking and it stopped the clicking noise at low speeds

Soft clunk on minor bumps

I would suggest anti roll bar drop links. From ones wear commonly and the rear one (which are a solid piece of aluminium) literally anal causing a clunk over bumps.
