Z4 e85 roof works going up but won't come down, red flashing light.

Hi, I'm new to my z4, the roof works full going up on the button, however the red light on the switch flashes constantly. The boot switch is fine when tested with volt meter.
The roof does come down manually when the bowden cable is released. Any helpful advice!

I’m afraid that it sounds like one side of your hydraulic pump had failed.

If the motor is all ready relocated into the boot it’s a fairly simple test to reverse things and then see if the roof goes down but not up.

Where in the country are you located ?

Have you made sure the adjustable parcel shelf is in the down position. Turn the two dials either side of the boot lip. Might be a sensor playing up. Other than that you need to get the motor/pump out of the side pod and dry it out then get someone to relocate it to the boot. Might be a bit far for you but Mike at the Zed Shed near Warrington does a great job and does it while you wait. Doesn't rip you off for your cash either. Might be worth the trip.

If the parcel shelf position is an issue. the LED on the switch will show orange and it wont even unlatch, so to me it doesn't sound like that's your issue as you said you had a red LED.

Is Durham Dave nearer to you then the Zed Shed ?

Just for laughs & giggles, prior to pulling the top, you should really consider using a good code reader which can pick up BMW roof error codes.

Good chance you have an issue with one of the hall sensors (those are reliable, as long as they don't break off).
If you have INPA, they are easy to check, by simply putting something metal over them and watching in INPA what happens.

If the top module registers an unlogical position, it won't budge in order not to break stuff.

In my opinion from my experiences with relocating many roofs motors, this is not a sensor issue at all. If there is a sensor issue, the roof wont move in either direction. My money is on the hydraulic pump having failed in one direction.
The test is to swap the lines over on the pump and also the two electrical spade connections. If this moves the problem to roof down up but not up, then you've answered your question.
