Whats that sound <<NOW WITH VIDEO!>>
Now I don't want to be one of those guys who says 'I've got a weird noise what is it'... but
Just any pointers please to help me dig further- 2004 2.2 M54 100K
I have a very slight whistle (ish) noise from the engine. Happens briefly around 1200-1500rpm accelerating, when still or moving, in gear or out, mainly when hot not cold. I did notice it was less with aircon off but then made no difference.
What I've done:
- air filter changed and checked when I did service 2 weeks back
- all hose clips tightened
- DISA valve checked all ok
I'm thinking maybe a belt issue at the front of the engine?
Where would you guys look first?
Cheers
Stuart

I'd bet that it's the small convoluted pipe that branches off the rubber intake boot. The rubber perishes and causes a whistle at low revs/light throttle. Follow the pipe from air filter box to throttle body and you will see the convoluted branch.
Have a good look at it and it will probably be split like in the above photo Sterling Grey '03 2.5i SE / Infinitas Supercharger / S.M.G / Hardtop / Gloss Black 162s / Bilstein B4s / 3.0i Brakes / DLV De-Cat & Silencer / Rebuilt VANOS / Sonar 2Xcite Lights / Carbon & Alcantara Trim / M-Sport Seats / ...& Side Covers !

Did some investigating- no obvious splits on the boot but deffo starting to perish/crack
Refitted and immediately no sound, but will see if it does the same hot
Will see if that has fixed it (tightening it all up etc) and go from there
Cheers for the input!

I had this noise on my first Zed and never got to the bottom of it. Only engine mod I did was change the air filter to a k&n one.
Second Zed had the same noise but only after changing the air filter again. Tried re-fitting and tightening etc but the noise remained.
Might not be this on yours but after I reverted back to stock, the noise went.
Might be worth re-checking fittings after the air filter change.

I changed the same hose with the flexi appendage when I fitted a ramair filter and refurbed my disa valve. I love the induction noise and i believe it has a little more get up and go, although it may just be the sound. The fuel consumption seems a bit better, but I have a slight whistle at 2000 revs. I’ve removed and retightened everything and it’s still there. Over the course of the weekend I’m going to put the standard air box back on and try that. I’ll post the result.

Sorry, to resurrect an old thread bigwinn, but did you ever get to the bottom of this whistle?
