No. Not the switch. The sensor loom that runs from the ECU into the roof front

Take out the little grille on the side wall behind the passenger seat and its there, Its a small grey box the size of a fag packet

Here's a pic that might help, it's labelled A96. Quite easy to get to, the part no. is 61357199997 for the later version. There are older versions but it seems the later ones are backwards compatible. Might not be cheap though

oldgitdave, Many Thanks for your help and all those who have brought knowledge and ideas. I shall have a look at this but will also call out to those who may be in West London UK area and who might have the ability to help in taking my car to them for diagnostic and repair.
