Get some Red x petrol treatment, pour half the bottle in the tank(about 100ml) this will cure the noise.Worked for me in the past, noise never came back.

Good luck when it comes to changing it if it’s a diy job . Not the most comfortable jobs to do on axle stands .

Most people remove it but I just left it on . I just bent the heat shield round it . Bends back easily enough .

noisey fuel pump

my pump (3.0 M54) is noisy when the tank is almost empty. I suspect as the fact that when less than almost empty the noise is obviously insulated by the fuel present in the tank.
Same for the 2.0?

If you could see in the fuel tank on these you wouldn’t let it go much below 1/4 tank . Fuel does a massive job in keeping the pump running cooler .

noisey fuel pump

Had the same with mine last month. Mechanic said it was probably trying to purge air from the system and told me to fuel it up a bit and go for a run. Noise hasn't been back since.
