I'm wondering if you guys know anyone who reconditions roof motors? I tackled theit today water logged and rusted to hell you all know the drill.... I relocated it to the booth without taking the hood off, that was a job and half let me tell you fbut finally got it out fluid is almost gone, but I unjammed the motor and dowsed it in wd40 and gave it a clean with a wire brush, popped it back with the pump and held the microswitch on the parcel carrier and not a Meg out of it, so I took it apart again and watched it when the roof button was pressed it unlatched and closed up fine just the motor not turning, I'm in Ireland and I'm looking for a motor rewind company or someone who reconditions them, I really don't wanna spent 600 quid on a new one. Here's the before and after pics hard to tell I know

Hi Johnny, not sure we have a forum member in Ireland who does roof motors. You may be able to post it. Give Alan, Number5, a PM he may be able to help.

Dunk the motor in a light oil or diesel overnight, then with 12v applied (either with a car battery or just plugged in) give it a solid few raps with a wooden mallet. 9 times out of 10 they spring back to life just fine.

Manual roof
Hi guys, so got my roof motor out of its poorly designed compartment and no surprises that it was drenched lol so it's knackered and I was reading about manually taking the top down. Problem I have is that when I push the roof down it unlockels fine the locking motor works.... For now lol... But it gives a some resistance when pushing it down, bringing the roof up is brutal torture that's the only way to describe it. Massive resistance two man job. It was like this before I removed the motor also. I bleed the used the red manual ring pull and I can see it is pulling the release clip on the pump housing so not sure why it's so stiff?? I even bleed the hydraulic fluid to make sure there wasn't anything in the lines to pull against me...there's a little white screw clip on the release line just inside the trunk line noticed it when I was removing the motor, that you can adjust I tryed it fully tightened and loose no difference whatsoever....... I'm baffled I've other guys put there roof up manually in 10 seconds it took me 20mins!! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as always guys thank you.

The reason it’s so stiff must be the release isn’t working, you’re fighting against hydraulic resistance in the system.Jonny3777 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 5:43 pmHi phoenix boy, I'm not too bothered weather the roof is automatic I don't mind putting it up manually I'm in Ireland so not to many days sun anyway just wondering why the roof is so stiff?Phoenixboy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 5:37 pm plenty of guys on the forum can likely get your motor running for not much money depending on your location...

Yep, as above - the bowden cable may be moving but it's either not pushing the brass plunger in on the motor enough or the brass plunger is seized. Since you have the motor in the boot, remove the top cover so you can clearly see if the plunger is being fully pressed - if it is then there is internal problem whereby the plunger is not opening the hydraulic bypass port on the pump properly.
To be honest, if you submerge your motor on a bucket of light oil or diesel over night then reinstall it, it will probably burst back into life if you tap it with a wooden mallet whilst operating the roof.

Just remove the three screws holding the black Bowden Cable assembly onto the pump and give the brass plunger a tap with a hammer. That will release the pressure.

Have you proved there’s no power by checking with a meter?Jonny3777 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 11:16 pmI drowned the motor in wd40 and gave it a good clean can turn the motor by hand freely but no power to itph001 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 6:33 pm Yep, as above - the bowden cable may be moving but it's either not pushing the brass plunger in on the motor enough or the brass plunger is seized.
