Roof motor issue

Post by R0n1n » Wed Oct 30, 2019 6:34 am

Had original roof motor moved to boot and rejuvanted but it didn't last for long.

Bought second hand replacement off eBay and didn't fit for a while and roof still doesn't open.

Roof unlatches at the windscreen and then nothing.

If I push the roof it kind of catches and kind of goes down with some encouragement along the way, doesnt have enough grunt to come up though.

The motor itself seems to be spinning OK - will attach video clip. So Im wondering, is it a duff motor or maybe something else?

Original motor was moved to boot and after a few months gave up (it was sat in water etc).

Replacement motor has been fitted and roof not working as per rest of post.

Are you sure you have enough hydraulic fluid in the system? I had this issue turned out after not using it and replacing the motor my hinge seals were leaking hydraulic fluid under the car.

Funnily enough I topped up the fluid yesterday. Still no joy.

I also removed the black bit at the top to check the brass pin, that is going in and out when I press it so would not appear to be that.

So despite checking these two things, still exactly the same :headbang:

You fitted the hoses the right way round (not sure if this can happen) and made sure all electrical connections are tight.
Is the motor making any noises?
Where are you based, you could pop along to one of the forum roof guys and let them have a look :)

The motor is running (I posted YouTube clip in first post). But I don't get the "whirring" noise at all. Hoses should be OK (not sure what happens either). I've just PMd bowser as he relocated original motor to the boot. Bloody thing!

Roof motor issue

Had another go at it today. Doesn't look like I put enough oil in, had to top it up a few times.

Anyway, pump is now making the right noises but unless I give the roof help it doesn't go up or down unassisted and doesn't go down quite far enough to lock in position.

So now it's looking to me like was not only low on oil but the motor is knackered too.

I'm sure Bowser will get it sorted, does sound like the motor could be on the way out.

That's the same symptoms I had. Check the drain holes under the car for hydraulic leaking onto the ground.
