Seat back cover coming off

Post by nathanW » Tue Jul 23, 2019 10:24 pm

Hi, need some advice please... The seat back fabric is coming away and I don't know the best way to tackle it. The whole passenger seat back already pops off due to loose clips which needs fixing but I need to restick the covering first, obviously.

The orange flaky stuff is not good for tape. It doesn't do anything.
Do I need to glue? If so, which sort?

Also my best idea for reattaching the whole seat back is to use a few registration plate sticky pads- unless there is a way to fix the clips??

Cheers,

An aerosol spray adhesive is probably your best bet for that.

I dont know why but in my experience of many Zeds, I only seem to see this problem on red leather seats with grey back panels.
is that the case here ?

I have had this problem with mine. Cream leather!
It popped off because I moved the seat right back as far as it would go. Electric seats. Think this caused it to pop out. Managed to manipulate it back into place.

Seat back cover coming off

My panel come loose also. From what I can tell the clips are still good tho. It has the two hook ones at the top
and one on each side about shoulder height. Is there a trick to get them snapped back into place?
Is there something that is supposed to grip it side clips?
It seems like they should have screws in the bottom pushing the panels upward.

BTW my seats are black with gray back panels.

Seat back cover coming off

I used carpet/flooring glue which fixed the cloth situation. And left it to dry.
Now I need to figure out how to get the clips to clip properly. I'm all out of ideas tho.
The only other thing I thought of was using registration plate sticky tabs. But that seems a bit drastic.

Seat back cover coming off

Post by Sidewaze Samm » Mon Aug 05, 2019 11:35 pm

When I fixed the seat backs that kept falling off (does this only happen to SE seats?) I discovered:
the two holes in the bottom lip were split open, so the plugs would pop out of them and allow the seat back to become loose; and
it was very difficult to locate the clips properly on each side of the seat back.

Fixed the holes at the bottom by applying a section of thin hardboard sheet with evostick, with a corresponding drilled hole - plug was nice and secure and stayed within the hole.
I noticed there was a lot of foam padding on the seat itself around the area where the side clips locate - cut this back slightly to make location of the clips easier.

Both of these resulted in two seat backs that easily fell in to place and remained there afterwards.

Did you have to unbolt or remove the seats to do this repair to the holes?

No - just move forwards and up to remove the seat back cover, if it's not fallen off. The split holes are in the bottom of the cover - The holes in the seat frame should be fine as are in metal or plastic section, not like the cardboard cover.

Seat back cover coming off

Post by BumpyZ4 » Mon Sep 25, 2023 5:27 pm

Check out my old thread. I ditched the plastic pins at the bottom and used spring nuts and screws to hold it in place. viewtopic.php?t=129842
