Water pump!!

Post by Gixxer916 » Wed Jul 17, 2019 7:07 pm

Has anyone got a video or point me in the direction of one... maybe be willing to take one???

I’m after a video (specifically the sound) of a healthy electric water pump on a n52.

All I need is the sound of a healthy pump when in bleed mode; e.g heater on full fan on min and accelerator pressed for 15 seconds. This puts the pump into a pulsing mode.

The pump is by the drivers side front of the engine bay and you should here a quiet pulsing.

Would really help my diagnosis before buying one please.

Much appreciated,
Jay

Is your car overheating or do you hear the fan revving/pulsing with a cold engine? :?

Hi mate overheated... well nearly.

Shut it off before any damage could occur. Upon inspection. I can’t see coolant return as I would expect when in bleed setting of the electric pump. But can hear a very faint pulse from the pump, therefore wanted to compare sound vs a good one.

When the pump died on my 1st Coupe it got too hot within a mile of leaving a petrol station.

I tried the bleed procedure and could hear some activity, but when I got it to my Indy it was showing a fault code for the pump.

So getting the codes read is probably the best place to start.

Thanks mate,
I’ve read the codes and nothing untoward.

Ordered one tonight anyway

Genuine pierberg and thermostat from carparts4less £311 delivered.

Couldn’t be bothered to shop around- seemed reasonable enough.plus any issues I can take them back to eurocarparts.

Fingers crossed.

Well being electric I suppose an intermittent fault is possible, but at that point failure is just a matter of when - not if!

Replacing it sounds like a good plan, and that's a pretty good price too.

That’s what mine did when it was on its last legs, a scan revealed “implausible pump speed” though.
I still had coolant flow through the header tank but it must have been below par, I’d get it changed :?

76K sounds pretty good - mine went at 60K. :(

But luckily it was December and I was only 4 or 5 miles from home, so it got me there!

Good to hear yours is now sorted.
