Air con not working

Post by healeyneil » Sat Jul 06, 2019 7:05 pm

My aircon appears not to be working. The light doesn't come on when you press the button, also, the fan doesn't seem to run at higher speeds. I'll try connecting to INPA tomorrow to see what it says, but any pointers would be handy. No obviously blown fuses !
Cheers !

Air con not working

Ok... firstly what variant pls... oh & as a newbie we need some pics or you’ll be hounded with :worthless: ... or did I miss your arrival post? If so apologies

Learnt a few things when I had mine looked at by a specialist to regas a month or so back... so comments are E86 focused

1) the E85/6’s are very reliable & don’t often have issues... same with E89’s
2) the temperature sensor is in the small hole under the fan speed dial, so keep that clean
3) knew this already, though reminded to keep aircon on all year round to avoid seal drying out
4) the two most likely places to leak are a stone through the intercooler radiator & the compressor joints

Good hunting

Welcome to the forum by the way!

My Z4 A/C isn't working either - it's booked in for a new condenser in a couple of weeks. :(

But from what you have said it sounds like your car may have gone into "transport mode" - does your heated rear screen work?

It's intended to allow the cars to be moved once built, but to prevent any heavy drain of electrical power. The selling dealer is supposed to delete it during the PDI, but many seem to just disable it and leave the coding in place.

If you your battery gets low it's not unusual for the car to go into "transport mode".

You need to get codes read and corrected by someone with access to BMW diagnostics - a dealer or a BMW Independent would be able to do it. I don't think generic code readers or Carly can do it.

ETA Just noticed you have INPA - that should work.

But if you bought your car recently from a dealer I'd get him to sort it!

Air con not working

Good morning. I did introduce myself - honest ! " Hi from Glasgow" I think. I connected INPA this morning and it tells me its in energy saving mode, which I guess is the transport mode you guys are saying. I can clear the code, but of course it comes straight back. Im going to see Durham Dave on wednesday for my hood motor fix. I'll see if he can sort it, otherwise, I need to find someone in Glasgow

I think the easiest software to do it in is ISTA. Be surprised if Durham Dave doesn’t have it.

Durham Dave didn't have the facility to do my air con, but he did sort my hood motor out - in about 40 minutes flat !
As expected, the motor was living in a puddle 😱

Do you have ista-d. You can deactivate transport mode with that apparently.

It was a private buy ! Anyway, Aircon sorted now, and spare key cut and programmed. All good now :D
Boyd Beattie did it for me. Definately a good guy. He did the things I didnt want to on my E21 and E39
