E85 Roof - flashing light, fuse ok, switch ok.. no cigar!

Post by Wobblewing » Sun Jun 23, 2019 1:44 pm

Hi, Hope someone can give me some tips here please...

2005 E85... Roof stopped 95% of the way there (to being closed) and now it won't do anything but flash the red light..

I've had to manually bolt down the roof so I could drive it... as it would do nothing, not even latch the roof... no window movements, no latch response, nothing... just red flashing light..

I've checked. Fuses 12,31, 55 - OK.. microswitch on the boot shelf - OK..
I had a gap tech RCH http://gap-tech.co.uk/rchp.html on it, but I removed that just in case this was the thing causing the problem.. that didn't help either...

Feels like it's not a motor problem.. feels like it's a controller problem, or there's a switch gone faulty somewhere.

I also tried a 'reboot' by disconnecting/reconnecting the battery... that didn't help either.. :headbang:

Any ideas folks? What can I check next? Is there another switch or sensor I've missed?

thanks!
Andy

Probably wire broke inside the roof lining that feeds the latch motors etc.

Hi..

Thanks for your reply.. I guess it's going to be something which is a total pain :-) Also I believe there is a microswitch either side of the assembly....

Seems it's not a 'common' fault... !

Now to figure out how to get to the faulty bit by careful disassembly!

Cheers

Don't think it's that hard to get to - if you undo the screws on the plastic cowl at leading edge of the roof you can inspect most things.

I had what sounds like the same fault, that's what was wrong with mine, as long as you can solder it's not a big deal to sort, open the roof part way, drop the headlining down and check the cable (passenger side)

Thanks fellas, sorry for the delayed reply... I've been away and now back to start looking into it.

I'll inspect behind the lining and see if the wire got snagged.

Interestingly the difference between the symptom in that guys thread and mine is that if I release the latch manually with the allen key, I still get no response from pressing a button and they just continue to flash red.

This could indicate a controller issue, but will have a dig around!

Struggling to get the toggle in the boot to release the Bowden cable for manual roof opening...
Any tips on how to release please? I don't want to pull too hard on it in case I break something!

I believe they’re prone to seizures either on the bowden cable or where the valve sits in the pump body? :?
