Eibach front spring doesn't fit on the top hat

Post by lambo911 » Sun Jun 23, 2019 11:32 am

I came to fit the eibach front springs but had a problem that the top coil does not fit over the dome of the top hat.

Do I need to use different ones?

The spring is a 112001004VA and th car is a 2003 3.0i with msport suspension.

We fitted the strut back in the car hoping the spring would settle over the dome but it hasn't so far.

Was a right pain fitting the spring by the way due to the way the Sachs strut compresses. We had to extend the piston then fit a couple of jubilee clips around the shaft to hold it in the extended position.

I also noticed that we need new top bearings as the rubber is cracked half way around. Should I just replace with standard?

Cheers

Is the spring the right way up? For the top mounts I used E46 parts, the alignment pin is in the wrong place but if you have to remove it to adjust the camber anyway.

Hi, yes definitely the right way up as the bottom coil is an irregular shape.

I was wondering if the springs were the wrong ones as these might be for 2006 onwards but I looked on Real OEM and the part number for the Spring Plate (top hat) is 31331135580 which is the same for both years

I think the springs I have are for the 'M' as they have a different spring plate

Yeah you may have the wrong spring, that one is listed for Z4M 06-09 only on autodoc

It says you need F11-20-010-01-VA

I've ordered a complete new set. Watch out for the M ones appearing in the for sale section !

Could you not just replace the top hat sections ? Just asking as I have the same set :headbang:

I did look at that but it is a different arrangement, you need spring plates, some washer things and different top mounts and they are a lot more expensive than standard.

They are also stiffer than standard to cope with the extra weight of the M. Which will mean it will ride higher.

I have ordered a replacement pair of Eibachs front springs from Autodoc as seems the easiest way to resolve it, so will chuck the M springs on ebay for the front as used the rears this week. Got to be worth £30 or so, may put an add here also.

Anyone tell me how long Autodoc take to deliver. Ordered on the 26th and got a 'delivery confirmation' , which actually means DPD have it on their system , yesterday and no idea on when I might see them

Got my front springs today, so thats another job on the car to do when time allows
Autodoc takes over 2 weeks to appear , which is a little slower than hoped, but was in the worlds largest box, so never any chance of damage.
