MOT advisory - lower suspension arm ball joint

Post by NickSalf » Wed Jun 05, 2019 4:08 pm

Hey fellow Z4'ers, my 2006 z4 coupe received this advisory on an MOT

Nearside Front Lower Suspension arm ball joint has slight play (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Front Lower Suspension arm ball joint has slight play (5.3.4 (a) (i))

Will this turn into a major fail by next MOT? how much should I expect this to cost me to fix? Shall i buy the part first and take it to a local garage or ask them to do everything?

Thanks for any helpful advice!

Cheers,
Nick

Had same issue at mot. I got the meile kit off eBay - about £280 which included control arms, bushes, track rod ends and drop links. Also bought eibach spring and was charged £300 to fit the whole lot, including alignment. Massive difference to handling of car.

I can recommend bushes from strongflex if you want to fit polyurethane, go for the lower durometer rating for comfort.

Can't you just replace the ball joint on our cars. Its often the rubber bushes that start to fail and that means replacing the complete arm but I would have thought a ball joint could easily be replaced.

The ball joints aren't replaceable on the standard arms.

ahh ok that makes sense why it will be a more expensive fix then. Do you know if the kit I posted has all the right parts or do I need to buy these bushes aswell?

Cheers,
Nick
