Help - I think my car is in transport mode

Post by Sandman77 » Sun May 19, 2019 12:21 pm

I only just collected my 08 Z4 coupe yesterday and didn’t notice on the test drive that the air con, rear window heater and heater fan weren’t working (buttons don’t even light up). I have done a bit of research and it would appear my car is in transport mode which makes sense if it has been sitting in a dealer for a couple of months.
Does anyone know how much a dealer would charge to turn this off? Or are there any members in or near Glasgow that can do this for a few?

I would take it back to the garage I bought the car from but it is in Sheffield which would be a 9 hour round trip for me.
Thanks

You need a decent level of diagnostic machine to reset it so unless the garage you bought from was a main dealer it would most likely be a wasted journey .
Id expect around £75 main dealer , indy should be half that

If you bought from a reputable garage they will want to fix the car for you. Given how far away they are they might well cover the costs of a local (to you) garage doing the work rather than collect and return the car.

Ring them up the worst they can say is no and even if they go halves you're still quids in given the time you will spend not traveling - although a nine hour hoon does sound tempting! :driving: :D

The garage has a legal obligation to supply a vehicle that is fit for purpose, they should stand the full cost of a reset at a bmw main dealer, no ifs no buts. If they won't play ball tell them you are rejecting the car under the "The Consumer Rights Act 2015" which requires dealers to supply goods of satisfactory quality. A letter is all it will take, they have a choice of paying BMW a small sum of money or having to take the car back......they will have to come and collect it too. You are in a win-win situation don't let the dealer get one over you.

To be honest I cannot really be bothered getting into it with the seller. I’m sure they will request that I bring the car to them and they will fix it. It is unlikely they would offer any money towards it without seeing the fault themselves.
In any case I would rather pay a local member for their time rather than a dealer.

I’m in Glasgow. I’m currently downloading DIS to see if I can get it to work with my VW vagcom cable.

I had this same issue when I picked up my e85. I bought this cable from Amazon which you then get a link to download INPA and ISTA on a programme called BMW Suite. It takes ages to download (left mine downloading overnight) I managed to turn it off using ISTA because I couldn't figure out how to do it on INPA. ROYALTEC INPA K+DCAN K DCAN Interface,Diagnostic Tool OBD II Cable SSS ISTA NCS Coding Winkfp Programing Support E serials with Switch https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0779FK5NK/ ... 5Cb07PPM3P

If you go for it, I'm happy to talk you through it once you've got everything downloaded and plugged in :)

I think a guide with screen shots on ISTA would be a great resource for the forum :poke:

Leave it with me, I'm playing with the car next weekend so I'll plug in and see what I can do :)

Help - I think my car is in transport mode

I got my car out of transport mode. I needed a 2nd key and a company local to me that could cut and program one and they also turned off transport mode for me (it was apparently under the air con menu in the software).

Good to hear it's now out of transport mode.

But did they just turn it off, or delete it?

From what I've read the supplying dealer is supposed to delete it during the PDI as it's no longer relevant, but many just turn it off!
