Air con not working
Hiya
I’ve had my car a couple of months now and with the nice weather I went to put the air con on but only warm air came out.
I took it to Kwik Fit to get it regased as I presumed that’s what it was. The guy said that there was a leak from the high pressure hose so he couldn’t do it. Advised me to go to a “back street garage” (his words, not mine) to get it looked at.
Anyone any ideas? It’s a 2008 E86 3.0si
Thanks

Did the quickfit monkey attach the car to the equipment or did he use his vast skill to ascertain the fault by just looking at it.

Air con not working
No idea. I sat in the waiting room while he “worked on it” for an hour, then he came and told me he couldn’t do it cos of the leak! I don’t wanna go replacing the pipes when I don’t even know which one it is.

Air con not working
I would say you find an air-con man. At a guess I would say the person who sold it to you knew the air-con didn't work and was delighted you didn't check when you bought it. Anyways find a local air-con man who knows what he is doing. It's likely the rubber seals have gone, it happens to any car that doesn't get the air-con used regularly as the seals dry up and crack and leak.
You don't say where you are, it's possible someone can recommend someone in your area if we know

Air con not working
When I was working and commuting around 140 miles a day (in my daily not the Zed) I never turned the air con off. Its there to 'condition the air' not just to cool it - or it would be called the 'air cooler'. The system takes moisture out of the air to make the cabin more comfortable so its colder (because of the way the refrigeration system removes moisture) in summer and dry hot air in winter which demists the screen and cabin quicker in autumn and winter and also 'feels' better on damp days.
Get an air con specialist to sort it then use it all the time - it will work better. Nothing likes to be stood and only used occasionally. Mine lasted all the 200K that the cars did and in fifteen years of driving with air con and having a glass of orange juice in the morning I never had a day off ill and since I worked with kids (who are well know bug factories) I also believe that the dryer air in winter has a positive health impact.
People will say that it uses more fuel - which it does that's not a problem. You would use more by having a window down and disrupting the air flow. They put air con in trucks because an open artic window uses more fuel than the air con - even on a vehicle of that size. Use the system don't save it for special occasions. In any case most cars are driving the compressor pump all the time because of the way the serpentine belt drives the ancillaries anyway so you're burning the fuel for no benefit.

Air con not working
Thanks for the replies guys. Like I said, I’ve only had it a month or so and I do usually have the air con on on a regular basis, it was only the warm weather made me notice it wasn’t that cool.
I’m in Birmingham. I will try and find a specialist. I know BMW would charge mega bucks

possibly gone into transport mode? If you've had a flat battery or recently changed it it could have gone into transport mode, check if the rear heated screen is working or if the blower s underpowered. Doesn't explain the pipe leak but worth a look before you spend any money

If the Kwik Fit guy couldn't even charge the A/C system because of a leaking hose than you need to get the hose replaced - simple as. The air-con won't even try to kick in without refrigerant pressure so you are wasting your time even thinking about anything else. There is usually a UV dye added to refrigerant when it's added so you can see where the leak is relatively easily with a UV light.
