Dampness under car

Post by nclem1133 » Tue Mar 19, 2019 7:21 am

So I have this weird damp spot that I’ve just noticed ironically after smelling gas all day. I have an 05 with 88k on the clock. Never noticed it before but exauhst smells like gas today. Crawled under the good old car and noticed this odd wet spot near the left rear wheel (drivers side). Any ideas as to if this could be a fuel leak?
(Sorry if this sounds dumb I’m advance I’m super young and this is my second car)

What is the air temperature near you today? If it's petrol it will evaporate quite quickly unless it's really cold. Does the damp patch smell of fuel? If so, get it towed to a garage and checked - don't even risk driving it, as a hot exhaust and fuel is never a good combination...

Most likely it's moisture and drips from the drain tube for the roof. See if you can locate the ends of these and see if it lines up with the damp patch.

Unless you are stationary in traffic, it's usual to smell other people's cars more than your own, as the fumes tend to get drawn away pretty quickly.
