Route for rear camera

Post by Greg 01 » Tue Mar 12, 2019 5:38 pm

Hi guys .
I'm looking to fit a new dash cam with a rear camera
Into to my e85 .
Has anyone done this and is there an easy route for the cable to go to the rear camera ?
Although the rear camera is only a small one i was hoping to fix it directly to the rear window .
Has anyone done this and if so was there any problems when dropping the roof etc.
Any help would be great .
Cheers Greg.

Surely it won't work because the roof folds flat? Probably better off fixing it to one of the roll hoops.

Won't it be easier to fit a dash cam that also fires backwards?

Hi guys .
Thanks for the reply,s , I had thought of the roll hoops but as the rear camera is very small hoped someone on here may have already done it .
I did look at other dash cams but most are big and bulky and i wanted a small cam to fit behind the rear view mirror.

I guess you could mount it on top of the centre console cubby area, but that might be annoying when looking in your rear view mirror. It would be a great spot to put a small camera though.

If he doesn't post on this thread, try dropping a PM to Olsonn. He has one fitted - but I've no idea what or how and didn't really notice where.

Cheers guys .
After Ben g,s comment I did wonder if it would go just behind my wind deflector.
Thanks for the pics Hagasan  .
My rear cam is smaller than the thinkware and would fit where you'rs is perfectly .
Do you get any glare with it being further back off the window ?
Cheers Greg.

No glare with either the soft top glass or hard top.. The camera needs to be raised a little bit to clear the roof when down and the lip on the bootlid hence my bracket.

Interested in how you route the cable.
I plan on mounting mine on the wind deflector but unsure is how to get the cable there. Front was dead easy.

Hi guys .
Just a quick update on this .
I've fitted the front cam as per the how to on here except wired the cam into two spare fuses in the fuse box , one permanent live and one ignition.
I managed to feed the wires down the A pillar strait through down past the side vent to the fuse box .
The rear camera cable I 've managed to push under the trim in the footwell and as far as behind the passenger seat no problem .
That's as far as I've got with the weather so far as I will need to drop the roof .
Cheers guys will update when I figure out where I go from here .
