Slight steering vibration
Afternoon all....so i have this steering vibration. Not massive, but I'm super fussy. I've had front tyres, rear control arm bushes, control arm and offside Tie rod end changed(not near side). No play in steering rack.
It's more noticeable on motorways, but sometimes hardly on smooth roads seems fine.
would you say this to much play - https://youtu.be/NSYdkbwol-8
I'm thinking near side tie-rod, or shocks/ shock mounts.

I’d say it was a lot of play. Put a leaver bar on one of the bolts and see how much it moves.
I think you need new lollipops,

Well jack it up and have a proper look around, something is wrong. None one on here can say for sure, only someone who his able to inspect the car in person

Will do.....will get the other half to give it a kick while I'm having a look to see if I can spot any play. I will then jack it up. Hoping it's the unchanged tie-rod- end.
Any z4 owners in Worcestershire willing to have a look. I'm pretty crap with cars....lol.

vibration/shake on the steering wheel. Do inner tie-rod-ends wear at all?

shake/vibration on steering wheel. You can feel it much more if you loosen the steering adjuster lever. Do inner tie-rod-ends wear at all?

If you're going to do tie rods it's prudent to do both. Honestly, if they've never been changed you'll do well to even get the outer part separate from the inner due to the years of rust and corrosion on the threads, so make your life easier and change both parts if one needs changing

cheers.....only the offside rod was changed. I was told no play in the nearside. I have the nearside in my boot, will head out and get some inner rods and have them all changed. Do inner rods wear out? and rubber on them??

I was asking for an in-depth description of the symptoms, what exacerbates it etc, but good luck with fixing it.

Your brake discs don't look to be in the best shape. Could it be that your pads are running over all the pits and bumps, and feeding back through the steering wheel?

are....good shout. I do get a slit vibration when braking. Only reason they're so rusty is the car has not been driven for a week or so. I will check for disks for smoothness.
Did you see anything loose from the clips at all. Wheels seems to be moving a fair bit. Might be normal I guess.

TBH shocking a wheel by kicking it doesn't make it very easy to spot free play or the origin of the play.
Discs sound worth a look. Replacements aren't very expensive if needed.
