Hi everyone.
I've got a 2.5si z4 on a 58plate with 80k miles on it.
Recently I've felt the performance of the car was lacking. I also get a slight bit of eratic idle as in when I start it in the morning when it fires up it goes up to 2k revs.
So I plugged it in and have been given 2a38 which is valvetronic monitoring sluggish performance.
Is this vanos related? The car was serviced 700 miles ago and did have the correct 5w30 c3 oil used plus had new NGK plugs fitted at same time.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi, vanos is valve timing & valvetronic is valve lift-they are two different mechanisms

Ah ok then. So it must be a problem with the valvetronic part then.
I've searched the internet and can't find any other z4 having same problem so I must have a rare problem.

I've got this same error code. I did a check of the engine ECU for codes, as I found the car hesitant to respond when putting my foot down.
Did you ever get this sorted?

If it's valvetronic monitoring I'd be suspecting the eccentric shaft sensor. First thing to do is pull the electrical connector off and check for signs of oil contamination.
