Windscreen arm nuts wont move

Post by Vbstein » Tue Mar 05, 2019 9:04 am

Hi chaps

Has anyone got any tips to move these nuts as they stuck and I tried for hours to move them. I left wd40 over night and no luck.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Give them a tap all the way round the nut a few times with a hammer Vbstein. Also you can strike the bolt head a couple of times square on, not too many as you don’t want to damage the threads but it’ll stand a couple of decent hits. Hopefully you’re using a socket to take them off. Failing the hammer taps you’ll probably need to borrow an impact socket from somebody if they still won’t budge.

Try releasing fluid, and then if you have a little blow torch to WARM it, it will be better than using brute force

Thermal shock is the way to do it. Loctite Freeze and Release...

...then apply heat with a jet cigarette lighter (blowlamp is too big and clumsy in that area).

Do the heat / freeze cycle a few times. They will come off no problem. The of course you have to pull the arms off the spindles! Again, buy a proper tool - don't cost much and makes your life so much easier....
