ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Bracket

Post by london001 » Tue Feb 26, 2019 12:36 pm

Hi guys!

Having an issue with my 2003 E85 3.0i - it appears that some sort of place behind the front right tyre has "come loose", and it rattling about - its not effecting handling or braking, however I am now getting 3 warning lights on the dash as well - amber lights on the traction control, flat tyre warning and the handbrake constently. Is this some sort of sensor plate? Read in a few places it could be the lateral sensor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Tried reviewing the documentation to no joy....

Cheers

Issue with plate behind front Right...

Post by london001 » Mon Apr 08, 2019 2:02 pm

Ok so it turns out it is a Front Right ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Bracket.

I am going to do a whole load of work round the brakes (new disks and pads etc), however anyone got an idea where to source one of these? Google has shown some dead links in ebay but thats about it...

I think its part 6 here

Thanks!!

That plate is literally just a dust shield and has no function beyond keeping crap from the brake disks away from the suspension parts and vice versa. If you have an issue with the sensor, that's part 11 on the diagram above.

Thanks lads, ordered a new sensor (surprisingly cheap), want to replace this dust shield as well then, especially if I'm already taking the wheel apart

If it’s causing ABS issues are you sure it’s not the relucter ring on the hub?

New bearings aren't technically essential, but you have to remove the old one to replace the backing plate. Basically, you may as well change then while theyre off anyway as they are a wear part.

Thanks everyone!! Anything else worth replacing in there while I'm messing about? Rather future-proof the wheels when I get the chance.
