UPDATE FIXED.Vibrating left front brake after heavy breaking and very hot wheel?!

Post by lee1981 » Wed Feb 06, 2019 11:39 pm

UPDATE - issue fixed, changed the caliper no more rubbing.

Thanks again all. šŸ‘

Hi people,

As my subject shows I've got a little problem.

Under heavy braking my front left wheel vibrates and gets hot.

I've checked the bearing - appears fine when hot and cold.
Brake pads - not worn unusually ( which seems odd).
Pretty sure the disc is fine due to when it's cold everything spins lovely.

If I stop and wait 5 minutes and then drive the wheel seems fine again then after a few minutes it happens again.

I'm thinking it's a caliper issue or my disc is warping when hot and then upon being cold is fine. (Unusual as you would still expect a slight warp.)

Wondering if any one else has any other ideas or know of any known issues that could be the cause?

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance.

Regards,

Lee.

I'd go with a warped disc

Snap! Had the same problem last week.

Left front caliper was sticking - I think its quite a commom issue... took it to a bmw specialist, the caliper needed lubricating and a clean, and it was all fixed. 45 squids. Tho they did say its probably a temporary fix, and might need a new caliper (90 quid ish)

Collapsed brake pipe..
The Hose Effect
An often-misdiagnosed cause of pull is a collapsed brake hose. The hose will look OK on the outside, but the inner liner will cause a restriction on the inside. A brake hose problem like this can take two forms. First, it can act like a restrictor in the line. Second, it can act like a check valve.

In the ā€œcheck valveā€ situation, fluid will freely flow into the caliper, but will not return to the master cylinder. This can mimic a stuck piston, as the caliper will fail to fully release.

Iā€™d go with sticking Caliper too. I got new discs and pads all round about 1 year / 9k miles ago, since then had both front callipers cause your symptoms on different occasions. Got brand new callipers fitted both times then come MOT time this week it fails due to ā€˜Offside Front Service brake excessively fluctuating (1.2.1 (e))ā€™ I then have to get brand new front discs and pads again šŸ˜”

Sticking or faulty caliper
I had the same issue
It juddered when I applied the brakes 50+mph
I changed both front discs and pads
It started t9 happed again and I realised it was the caliper,
Purchased a new caliper and purchased again new discs and pads :x
As it happens the garage that changed the caliper Saudi the brake discs and pads were not needed
Itā€™s all sorted now

Though I do have a set of Pagid front and rear discs and pads that I purchased off a forum member
So if anyone wants brand new boxed Pagid discs and pads for Z4 coupe? Ā£160
