Reversing lights / PDC not working

Post by gurkin1234 » Sun Feb 03, 2019 10:24 pm

Hi all, anyone come across a case of reversing lights and parking sensors not working simultaneously? Checked bulbs and connections are all good. Could it be some sort of sensor that detects reverse gear, on the transmission, that is broken? Thanks!

Yes there will be a switch on the gearbox but have you checked for a fuse?

Before you start looking at gearbox switches. The switch activates a relay that operates the lights. It would pay to check this frist before you start under the car..

And the fuse is ok? Yes the relay would be the next obvious candidate.

That's ok. Fingers crossed for the relay, as looking at the diagrams the switch could be awkward to get at.

I'm having this same problem as well and was about to buy a new reverse light switch. What is this relay you guys are referring to? Where is it located?

You could also see if the sounder for the reverse beep has been disconnected, if it's never worked, as people unplug due a sensor faults, if it has been working then not likely to be this

Thanks all for your replies. Tested the fuse today and it’s not that, so I reckon the culprit is most likely the switch given both lights and sensor have stopped working.

Now to get it replaced!

Just to share, there is no backup light relay for the M models despite what realoem says. There's a note that mentions it applies to vehicles with automatic transmissions but the M only comes in manual...
