Hi guys, can some kind forum member have a quick look at this and tell me what looks like what could be the problem. The zed runs perfectly with no warning lights although a slightly uneven idle.

Possibly a cracked manifold as quite common on the 2.0l. Unfortunately there is a long history of emissions related problems with the 4 pot that nobody seems to be able to get to the bottom of. Doesn’t seem to cause too many issues though as they still run ok as you mentioned... well until MOT time that is.

+1. Unfortunately the uneven idle is a common occurrence too. Its not ideal but you may be best leaving it till you start getting warning lights or can noticeably hear the exhaust is blowing etc. Even then on these engines the warning light can be there one day and gone tomorrow, at least at first anyway

Thanks guys, i thought a cracked manifold :| But strangely it sailed through the emissions test and MOT 3 weeks ago! With just the air leak as an advisory. Like i say the zed drives perfectly no loss of power and no dash lights it just sounds not so sweet while ticking over.

Cheers, tug

If they pointed out the air leak as an advisory, surely they know where it’s leaking from?

Apparently not mate, had 3 indies have a go at finding the problem and all of them came back with "we can hear it but can't pinpoint where the leak is coming from" really strange, this one has them all baffled. :idunno:

Don't want to take her to BMW cos i know they will want at least £2000 for a new manifold etc.
