Locked out....engine running

Post by Sidewaze Samm » Mon Dec 10, 2018 11:30 am

So this morning I had to drive for 1hr 40 mins through rush hour traffic, taking the spare key to rescue my son who was locked out of his zed.
Thing is, he was locked out but the keys were in the ignition, engine running, wipers on. He'd got out of the car to open a gate and couldn't get back in!
I'm told it could be the start of problems with a faulty module (GM5?).

Anyone experienced this before?

sounds bad for sure, i have always been told it cant/wont lock thr doors with the keys in the ignition - but being paranoid i dont trust it, seems like i was right. maybe someone local could take a look with their carly and switch auto locking off - any liklyhood that his alarm did it ? cat1 style ?
If you ever think I'm off my rocker.. Just put me back in it and walk away... It's the kindest thing

I think auto locking is switchable from the instrument controls? :?

I think it’s accessible from the left stalk & scrolling through the settings, been a while since I had my e85 now.

Yep, coding only for that. From memory though I think it has to be moving (you can select various speed options) before it will allow the doors to lock so how he managed to get out and the doors re-lock themselves sounds very strange indeed.

If i recall correctly there are options in carly to configure auto doorlocking on time and/or speed. Correct me if I'm wrong. May have been coded previously.

I'll look into that. I know it's set to lock on drive-away and also if doors aren't opened after remote unlocking

It shouldn't have locked like it did. It's not possible to configure it to. Only as above, when driving off at a certain speed or the car can be coded to lock if it's unlocked but nothing else happens, i.e. no doors are opened etc.

GM5 module relays could be likely cause as first suggested.

Never trust any car not to lock me out. Always leave the drivers windows or doors open, if the key is in the ignition. Never been locked out, but would never trust modern electronics to do what they are designed to do every time. Just too darn complecated to rely on IMHO. :o I'm an electronics engineer by trade in case our where wondering, all be it an old school one.
