2003 E85 3.0i SMG Leak
Hello guys, I am newbie in the forum,
When car was lifted, I noticed a leak from the SMG tranmission.
Photos attached. These are from the left side of the SMG tranmission.
It seemed to me that this is coming from hydraulic clutch actuator, and manual says replace the sealing ring when installation. I could not try to remove the parts for a detail troubleshooting.
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e85- ... mg/G5GTKf5
Questions would be, your thoughts are appreciated:
1-) There is not any info on the sealing ring P/N of the hydraulic clutch actuator, do you have any experience/advice on this?
2-) Is this leaking from the hydraulic actuator as a hydraulic? (=fed by SMG hydraulic system= https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e85- ... mg/EERN5Ly )
3-) Can this leak be the tranmission oil from the transmission case/clutch?
Thank you

Might be wrong but from that last photo it doesnt look a serious or recent leak. If you can clean it up I would recheck to see whether or not you do have a current leak.

I think it is a current leak although not serious. The lower nut of the two that secures the clutch actuator in position looks quite wet with fluid in the first photo.
I agree though about cleaning it all up and monitoring it. Ozgur, have you checked the level of hydraulic fluid in the reservoir on the opposite of the gearbox ?
As for your questions :
1) Not sure there is an o-ring on the interface of the actuator and gearbox bell-housing. I would say that leak is from the seal on the actuator piston itself. A new BMW 7507097 actuator and sensor on EBay is £1,068 / €1200 !! This company may be able to help you repair or replace it more economically. I have dealt with them in the past for my SMG https://www.smgsociety.com/
2) 99% certain it is SMG Hydraulic fluid leaking from the actuator These diagrams show the actuator in its location and connected to the SMG high pressure system. 3) No. Definitely not transmission/gearbox oil
Hope this helps

Hello guys, responses are much appreciated.
1-) I will clean it and have a look. I also think that it is current leak, with wet fluid on the nut.
2-) I will check the reservoir on the opposite side. I will top up (probably low due to this leak and I may become stranded due to this one day) if necessary.
3-) From the actuator pictures, yes unfortunately there is not a sealing ring between the clutch actuator and the tranmission casing
This is unbelievable high price for an actuator thank you for smgsociety link, I will have a look.
4-) Glad that you also think that it is not gearbox oil.

I will kindly ask them for better pricing

Hi again, I could arrange the schedule have removed the clutch actuator today and it is definetely leaking.
On Monday SMG society will overhaul the part and I will have it back and see what happens, hopefully it will work when installed.

2003 E85 3.0i SMG Leak
Hi, SMG Society has overhauled the part. They are working like home-atelier, in a very nice house and location in south of Berlin.
Part is now re-installed, working good, and seems there is not any leakage in one day. I will check for a month and hope to edit the subject as FIXED
