3 warning lights on dash

Post by Cole » Mon Oct 22, 2018 8:42 pm

Need help please!! I have had 3 warning lights on in my car, relating to brakes , handbrake or tyre pressures :( all have been checked and which has cost me by garages who think they know but the issue still remains. I have also noticed some water under my drivers seat but cannot locate the roof reservoirs to clean/ check drains or remove plugs. Wondering if some wiring is there to cause the lights?? 2006 BMW Z4 34000 miles

I think it might be helpful if you told us what lights were on

It can often be a dodgy wheel sensor. A code reader will tell you more - often they disappear with a reset

I had these after doing tie rods and alignment. Steering angle sensor needed recalibrated. A 2 min job in INPA

Hello Cole,

I had a similar issue a few years ago where I had three warning lights illuminated (the ABS, traction control and tyre pressure warning lights if I remember correctly). In my case, it turned out to be the lateral acceleration sensor under the carpet under the driver's seat. This could be at fault, especially if your carpet is wet. As Marlon said, a code reader should be able to tell you more as it's not worth changing unless you're sure as they are quite expensive. I had a local garage read the fault and I replaced the sensor myself.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Jon.

I had this too. The part is the same as the one used in the E46. Got it for £20 - was nearly £600 from dealers. But was a long job fitting as had to remove seat etc.

Hi Cole,

Only a newbie myself, but the wet floor could be from the roof drains being blocked (if you have the roadster of course :D ) - These can be checked without removing the rear wheels, but easier if you do. There is a access panel at the front of the rear wheel arches, once removed you can see a rubber grommet in the shape of a cross at the back corner nearest the outside of the car.

Give this a squeeze,or pull it off completely and see if anything comes out, you can run a short length of small rubber pipe or wire up the drain hole if its blocked. If it is full of water it can lead to roof motor failure, so worth checking - Plenty of videos online showing this in better detail then I can describe.

Hopefully if I am barking up the wrong tree somene more knowledgeable will correct me

Hope you sort your issues and get back to having fun with the car

Cheers

Can still not find where the water is coming in. Had the door off, cleaned / checked reservoirs, window vents.. no obvious sign of a leak :( any other ideas ???

Hey, Check your battery. I had all sorts of lights flashing on and off when mine was knackered. A simple tester should help.

The light issue is caused by the water

Water ingress is 99% caused by either:

1) Door membrane damaged / missing
2) Roof drain holes blocked
3) Windscreen scuttle panel gunked up.
