CARLY users beware - Thinking of buying, think twice

If you are a Carly pro user, you may find next time you try to use it you will get constant messages suggesting it is important that you upgrade. I got fed up of these and stupidly decided to do so. If you are unfortunate as me here is what will happen. Your old app will open but Free (non pro mode) only which virtually does nothing. When you try to use the new app and again try to do anything it will not let you unless you buy it again. Chck the android app ratings and look at the 1* ratings. One review is also suggesting it is now sold on an annual subscription basis at $60 (I haven't had time to check this out).

You may be better off sticking to the old version and putting up with the pesky messages (they come frequently)

If you owned a (genuine) paid version of Carly before they moved to a subscription earlier this year, they gave you a free lifetime version of the new software (subscription free with all of the options that were in app purchase before), but you had to follow the right steps to updgrade to the new version and it to recognise your account.

I finally got around to doing this recently (on IOS) and came up against a similar problem, because I deleted the old version whilst the new Carly app was installing. All I had to do was to reinstall the old version temporarily and then open it once to click on the upgrade button to migrate my account to the new version.

I purchased genuine Carly software at £50 from android play app and Carly bluetooth adapter at £45 from Amazon on Feb 9th this year (for my e91 with the intention of buying cable later for Z4).

I haven't used it much TBH and not for about 4 months I think. My previous version was on my phone and working fine on Saturday, but kept getting pesky upgrade messages. I left it on the phone and downloaded the latest version, so I have both versions on my phone. My original option now no longer works, for example if I want to view parameters, it now says I need to upgrade to pro. The new download also doesn't work, when i try to do anything I am prompted with a button to get pro version and it asks me to purchase.

I'm a pretty unhappy bunny.

The upgrade email came from Carly in May and stated “You will get the free upgrade: if you bought the old BMW Pro version before March 15, 2018 (Android) or before March 19, 2018 (iOS)”.

Sound like you should be eligible so you need to contact Carly tech support if the FAQs don’t help:

I have Carly for iPhone and the Bluetooth adapter.
I can’t seem to get any readings from my e85 2003 Z4. Anyone else had this experience?

I think you have to use the cable adapter on early Zeds for full compatibility.

I'm pretty sure if you need the wifi adaptor for Carly on iOs... I have wifi and adaptor and it works fine on my iPhone

As above, OBD will not work over bluetooth to an iOS device, so you need the wifi adaptor instead.
