C110 scanner not working

Post by Silverzedtom » Thu Aug 16, 2018 1:50 pm

Anyone had issues with c110 scanners not being able to read anything?

All I get is ‘communication error’.

The scanner is brand new so might send it back if it’s not working properly. The cars a 2.5si.

Thanks as always

Ignition on, 1 click before the starter engages IIRC?

thanks, have tried all sorts though.

I have been putting it in the port with no key, then twisting to the position you describe, and even started the ending and it still won’t have any of it.

I’m wondering if it needs an update, trouble is I don’t have a disk drive  . I don’t think it will be that though as the current software is dated way after the car was built.

C110 scanner not working

Have you ever used another OBD device on the same car? If not the it is possible that a previous owner has disabled the OBD port to prevent a thief from plugging in to reprogram the car to a new key (a common BMW theft issue a few years ago). In that case i’d expect you to find an aftermarket switch hidden somewhere around the cabin to re-enable the OBD port.

Thats good thinking although the scanner gets power from the port, so probably unlikely unless they just switched one or more cores that doesn’t give power? I haven’t ever plugged anything else into the port.

The owner before me was mad on cars so it wouldn’t surprise me.

I’m thinking it might be best to send it back and go for something else, shame though as the c110 ticked all the boxes for a budget scanner.

There are more than one + and - supply on the BMW 16 pin obd... Get a multimeter on there. Google is your friend..

IIRC its just one of the two CAN lines that have to be disabled in the OBD port to stop a thief communicating with the ECUs, not any of the power connections.
