LED Display Problem?

Post by DSCOFF » Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:37 pm

Earlier today, I stopped for fuel and when I restarted my car - The trip display readout has malfunctioned.
The odometer and other LEDs are only partially displaying?
When it first happened: the numbering was half normal/ half dim.
Now it appears to have a dead row of pixels, through the top range of numbers, showing the odometer and trip mileage.

Have never had this problem before and the only recent, electrical changes to my car have been the fitting of a new rear wheel speed sensor. Following pothole damage.

Any advice welcomed and did try searching the forum ( honest!).

LED Display Problem?

Hi there, my z4 has a similar prob, but I have a spare cluster which I have dismantled down to the circuit board. There is a little screen that sits on top of the six leds I think I counted.it clips into the circuit board, if it’s contact pins get dirty or corroded you loose some of the digits or parts of them . I’m just gonna take the little screen from my spare cluster and replace my dodgey screen.I’m more mechanically minded and not keen to tackle electronics, but it seems straight forward enough to dismantle the cluster. Just plucking up courage to dismantle the cluster in my car now😫😫😫

If you have another working cluster it is much simpler to swap and code it, rather than dismantle, cable and software can be got for about £30 online.

Spare cluster came with car,so would be daft to spend money on cables and software,I’m better with a screw driver in my hand than I am with a laptop👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Sorry for the late reply- have been away, for a bit.
Thanks for the comments on the cluster issue and have yet to have mine fixed.
Was about to send it to a specialist and pay £90. As this retains the original mileage and does not require re-coding.
But now tempted to buy a second cluster and take Scooba Steve’s advice.
Funds are at a premium, as my Forester XT is about to receive new head gaskets!
