Roof drain hole just a quick question
How does water get into the roof motor compartment. Is it from above ie rain and washing the car or is it from underneath ie spray kicked up from the wheels.
Just wondering as our z never goes out in the rain, but gets washed every week.

Roof drain hole just a quick question
The rain runs off the roof and into the drainage channels behind each door
If the drain plugs are clear of debris, (or the rubber plugs haven't sealed themselves up) then out onto the floor
You can check if they are clear by carefully pouring water down the gap between the body work and roof

Roof drain hole just a quick question
I did read somewhere that BMW now advise removing the plugs altogether, just leaving the drainage tube. Does anyone know if that's correct?

Some on here have removed the plugs, but I've read that it can increase road noise in the car
Personally I just ensured they were kept clear

Roof drain hole just a quick question
Removed mine altogether when Durham Dave relocated my roof motor shortly after I bought the zed.
Thought it was a good preventive maintenance measure as well as ascertaining the current condition of the motor after reading horror stories on here.
Fortunately, it was as dry as a bone and the cleanest example Dave had ever seen!
I'd highly recommend removing the drain plugs as well as relocating the motor.

Always smile when people talk about increased road noise in a roady
My drains have been overflowing the last couple of days with the rain we've been having. Should probably give them a clear out!

Remove the bungs defo - they don't make any notable difference to road noise at all. They were originally put in to stop creepy crawlies getting inside the car I think.

SOS - are there any kindly Zed owners around the North London area who can help me locate and remove these plugs? I have cleared the drain holes from above but no water comes out, and it is definitely full of water!! Desperate to clear it before i put his winter top on. I am happy to drive distance

Alternatively you can 'feel' for the rubber grommet on the RHS from the top (it may be blocked with debris) with a garden support stick (green things), old whippy aerial etc, etc

Removing these plugs us literally a 2 min job provided you don't have massive hands. There was a good picture outlining exactly where they are on. I'll see if I can find it

Bloody photobucket, it's gone.
Just stick your hand under the sill at the rear wheel and you'll feel a triangular opening. Inside there you'll feel the rubber bung. Pull it out and bin it!
