Budgie? Where is it?

Post by jock156 » Thu Jul 19, 2018 2:45 pm

When driving (top down) the cabin sounds like a Budgie chirping when going over bumps. I'm convinced its coming from somewhere in front of me, but today the wife was next to me and she is convinced its coming from the rear.......... or my seat!

It really does sound like a budgie but feck its annoying so I have to turn the stereo up. Having said that the wife is annoying so I did turn the stereo up! :D

Any pointers?????

I’ll be interested to hear peoples thoughts on this jock
I do the same as you, crank up the sounds
Think I read somewhere it’s possibly the catch on the roof.
Anyway we shall see
As you say bit annoying but it’s one of those annoying things that are usually a pain to resolve but requires time a patience to sort of which I have neither.

2006, forgot to mention the wife also thinks it maybe the drivers seat but I wouldn't bank on it!

Ermmm maybe she does have great hearing because she can always hear me opening a crafty beer from about 40ft away!!!

Drive it with the glove box open and see if it goes away.

I had a similar sound, couldn't tell where the heck it was coming from. Turned out that the rubber stop for the glove box door either had shrunk or worn enough to not close quite tightly enough. I pot a little piece of self adhesive foam opposite the stop and that cured it.
Oddly enough the sound seemed to be coming from the back.

If the 'budgie' is only chirping when the roof is down I'd bet it's the center catch/bracket on the hood. Mine used to drive me mad until I stuck a piece of self adhesive felt inside the central catch on the leading edge of the hood. Try placing a microfibre cloth over the small metal central bracket behind and between the head restraints. Lower the hood and go for a drive. If the chirping stops then get your self some felt !

I had a similar sound from mine, I drive with the seat at its lowest and furthest back and the noise was the seat rubbing on the plastic panel behind the seat. Just have to get used to it I suppose.
