Help with airbag module please

Hi, I'm a new member based in Peterborough. I've had my 2003 Z4 3.0SE for 4 years and it's been like a dream with no issues at all. HOWEVER.............

The battery dies after 2 days and it has multiple electrical failures (hood, wipers, windows, radio etc) and the airbag light stays on! After trying a new battery and measuring current drain whilst removing fuses I gave up and took it to my local Indie.

Their conclusion is the airbag module pictured below, with it disconnected the car is fine and everything works. I've been driving it around with no issues at all but the MOT is now due and obviously the airbag light is on.

They have quoted £595, plus fitting, coding and VAT which is fairly steep so I have been researching using a used one and found a lot of conflicting information. So I have a few questions.........

Is the part number i need 65 77 6935920?

Can it be coded before fitting?

Is there anyone out there who code one for me?

Many thanks in anticipation Paul

Does the blower and heated rear window work? If not it could be in transport mode.

If you're sure it's the module then yes it can be done.
I'm sure I covered it on my original thread here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=37521

Who you getting the quote from? I paid about £100 all in, but depends on how much you can get a module for. Also where are you based? Like I said, I'm sure I run through it systematically on the thread above so take a read and then let me know if you still have any questions

I've had this before after a flat battery and was able to clear the fault with INPA

The quote I had was for a new module plus fitting / coding and vat. They won't touch a second hand unit. I read your thread and it's encouraging to see that it can be done, I know nothing about the diagnostic equipment and am happy to pay to have it coded to the car and to travel in order to get it done. Who did you use to get yours done?

Encouraging, what is INPA? ( sorry for being thick 8)

I see you're in Peterborough, bit far. They chap I used was in Kingston.

I came across a site called crash-data on my travels. If you can find second hand module, then you can ship both modules to them. They will copy all info required from your old one, onto your second hand one. Then it should be plug and play. You may or may not need to run diagnostic software to clear all previous faults before the light goes out.

It's just diagnostic software. I assume you've already taken it to a BMW specialist who has read fault codes and then cleared it (to then see what faults re-occur). If you haven't do this ASAP. It's not common for a airbag ECU to fail unless there's some sort of damage? Possibly water. When you had the battery fault it could have just triggered the airbag light, but might be easy to resolve by getting a good BMW indie to take a look.

Yes it's been to a well known indie who has confirmed the airbag module is duff. With it disconnected the car and all the electrics are fine, as soon as it is reconnected I get multiple failures due to canbus errors. I've taken it out (another story!) and it's not wet at all, apparently I may have fried it when I charged the battery. I'll give the guys at crashdata a call and see what they say.

As mentioned, it's the BMW diagnostic software.

The garage I use couldn't clear the fault with whatever fault code reading tools they were using, but the proper software was able to do the trick...

However it sounds like your issue is a bit more serious.

I take it you've looked at RealOEM? https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partse ... &q=6935920 This will show you which numbers are cross compatible. I got lucky and found one exactly the same as my existing one... you've just got to keep your eye on ebay for the module itself or any new cars being advertised as "breaking".

Still no joy, I've got all the compatible numbers but nowhere seems to have one. I sent it off to crashdata and they said it's a hardware fault as they can't read it or get it to respond in any way. Meanwhile the car sits rotting on the drive with no MOT :(

Thanks, I've sent him a message. Where did you get yours from and did you have any problems coding it to the car? Cheers Paul
