Electrical issues - turn signals - random errors

Post by DWMcCloud » Sat Jun 16, 2018 8:18 pm

Hi all, and thanks in advance.. Many BMWs but this is my first Z4. I just purchased an 03 which had been severely neglected... but runs drives like new. Need help diagnosing this one..
No turn signals inside .. all outside working
No audio from radio/CD
Air bag light on
Other random lights on then off.
Top works randomly
Sometimes when shutting down and removing key, beep continues as if key remains
High/low beam indicator rarely works
AC fan and inside controls appear to work properly but compressor does not engage
Only 1 code found P0700, cleared and stayed off for several days, returned and cleared again.
It appears they replace a battery within a last year.
All fuses check good
12.2 v when off 13.5 when running

I have read hundreds of posts similar but none matching.
Does not appear to be low voltage ??
No "seen" corrosion.. ?

Help is much appreciated!

Welcome along OP

Maybe the car is in transport mode or the battery is low or old?

These cars don’t like nearly dead batteries you get plenty of random issues.

12. what? 12.0 V is around 25% and these cars do not like low batteries. Get it on a charger (or buy one, like a CTEK) or replace the battery first, it may solve many spurious problems.

I am heading out to put a charger on it now. I will clear any codes and keep the charger on for awhile. I am surprised as most batteries I have experienced will drop to 11 or so during cranking. I will watch battery voltage closely and report back but I do not believe it is the current battery which is the problem.... but hey ... I've been wrong before .... at least according to my teenagers...

I had this a few weeks ago. It was the airbag control module between the seats under the centre console had got wet. Dried it out and used contact cleaner on it and was good as new
