Check the fuel tank seal, also does it happen when you go from low fuel to fill up? Had this on the Z3. It was seal on filler cap. Went on it's own.

Thanks Coupster, it's hard to say what's triggering it as it happens regularly. My commute is approx 20 miles. If I reset the code I can drive to work, drive home, go to work again and it happens half way home so say every 70 miles. Like this I can probably reset the code two or three times per fill. Will look at the seal though.

I'd also check all the intakes for no splits in pipes. That was a problem I had on the roadster.

Ok took a look at the gas cap and this is the situation. Would this perishing be the cause? Anyone check against their own for a comparison please?

That could well be the problem. It affects the EVAP system. It's got to worth a change, or find something similar to try.

Hmm thanks Coupster. Was hoping others would not show cracking. Not to say of course that mine may just be a few months ahead of yours. Could still be the issue. Plenty on the net to assist with tracing the fault but you need to know where the various components are located. That's one of my problems. The pump is obvious as is the exhaust valve but can't find where the solenoid is.......

Not sure Coupster. Code waited longer to return but return it did! Wondering if it could be an intermittent relay next. As far as I can see on this engine the system consists of a feed a fuse a relay a pump a valve and finally a "whatever" which signals the failed state to the ECU. Since the purpose of this system is to warm up the cat quicker I'm guessing there is a sensor after the cat which signals the ECU. Can't find anyone to clarify though.
