I have recovery, but the car is now at home and the recovery doesn't cover home visits unfortunately

Push it onto the road Seriously though if it’s running ok then the chances are it’s an air leak. Check the intake boot that comes off the back of the air box- I suspect the smaller hose that braches off that will be split.

Doh! I know it is but didn't think that would cause it!
Anyway I've arranged for a local guy to call out today to take a look with the diagnostic thingy, at least I know what to look for.
Cheers

Sorted, the engine management light stayed on once I had fixed the leaking bung but once the guy read the fault which said lean on bank one which sounds right and cleared it the fault hasn't returned.
Job done cheers

Well I thought it was sorted, Its happened a couple of times since the original and been re set both times only to re appear.
Sometimes when it is started there is a bellow of smoke out of the exhaust; I wonder if this could be a symptom of sticky piston rings with it standing around and not being used much, therefore showing a weak mixture on bank one on the readings when its checked.
Any suggestions?

Crankcase ventilation? Could explain the smoke out the back. There is a CCV valve that often gets stuffed up with gunk, as does the return pipe to the sump.

But if this is gunged up wouldn't it blow the smoke out all the time??? not just on occasions on start up??

It causes oil to settle in the inlet manifold which could weep into the cylinders overnight.

I noticed it did it within around 2 hours of my wife getting in from Work when I re started it.
Would this be enough time for that to happen do you think?

It certainly leads to excess oil consumption but not usually a lean code - that's typically due to a split in the intake elbow small pipe...

Airflow meter / lambda sensors next then I guess - lean codes could be a few things, can you post the exact codes? . You could do with looking at live values with INPA tbh.
