Sadly a tough life lesson of not stopping when warning lights come on...
I hope you find a cheap motor to drop in and fix it

Thanks for all the advice guys
I'd really hate to sell so it looks like an engine swap is on the table
Where would be the best place to source a 2.0?
I'd love an engine upgrade but my insurance is already ridiculous

Very true, I didn't stop as it was when the snow was particularly bad and in the middle of the night

Start with Ebay where I can see a couple of engines for <£1k. Could pay monthly. Call specialist BMW breakers and see what they have

Could check out Maro bmw spares on ebay. Currently have a 2.0i engine in stock for a 2005 - 2006 car. Hope this is of help

It was back when the weather was particularly dreadful, heavy sleet and snow in the middle of the night on the motorway. visibility was low so really didn't fancy the hard shoulder.
