Shoddy windscreen replacement

Post by heavymetalthunder » Mon Jan 21, 2019 6:40 pm

I wish I read this before I got my windscreen replaced today (by Autoglass through Elephant) I attach a few photos - not as bad as Andy's admittedly, but not really happy with the seal on this. I suspect it's not an OEM one - I guess I'd be right to complain and request OEM? The glass they fitted is a Solarshield Shatterprufe (previous was Pilkington).

(I thought it was better to reply here instead of starting a new topic)

No - needs doing again!

I've had the misfortune to have had two screens in my Zed within four months (large stones both times). Both fitted by autoglass and both times I requested and got OEM glass and more importantly the seal/gasket. The OEM seal is more supple the first time it was folded into a figure of eight in the bag and it just leapt into shape when the fitter get it out

You have to lay it on thick and keep saying OEM to them - they will ask your insurer. Mine agreed instantly both times. Marlon had a number of visits before his was sorted. Good luck

You can insist on your insurance company that it needs to be done using bmw parts by bmw. They’ll argue but stick to your guns and they’ll have to provide you a suitable option.

Doing it the way you have it currently, significantly reduces the value of your vehicle.

I definitely wouldn't accept that - it's a bodge! :headbang:

And if the seal doesn't fit properly at the bottom of the screen I would have thought it's going to let water into places where water shouldn't be.

I hope you can get a proper job done.

How do you work that out? It's not a seal, it's a cosmetic bit of trim that hides the windscreen gunk.
