Oil Level did work but now No longer Reading

Post by Molinites » Mon Apr 23, 2018 3:22 pm

Hi, I am aware the engine needs to be up to temp which it definitely is. It has worked many times but now the clock displays and the level read just cycles without giving a reading like it’s still too cold.
Have tried it stationary too.
Have cleaned the oil level sensor connectors in the sump and the wiring looks fine.
A plug in Snap on tool can read engine oil temp and level ok so surely the sensor is working?
Anything else worth checking prior to replacing the oil level sensor in the bottom of the sump?
Is there another sensor?
Many thanks

Hi, you say it’s up to temp-how long & how many miles did you drive it for?

Oil Level did work but now No longer Reading

About 30 mins. I used to be able to read it by the time I got to work. Not anymore. Oil is only a few months and a few thousand miles old. Temp gauge is up to its normal point for ages and still no oil level read. Tried while driving and stationary. Never been a problem before.

Looks simple in the manual

If the oil lamp lights up in yellow within 30 sec of startup then the sensor is defective

Hi and thank you. The oil light is red when the ignition is on like most symbols then goes off as soon as the engine starts. This I believe is what it should do.
Because a Snap On diagnostic tool can read the oil level and temp you would assume the sensor is working? But I don’t know what else could be faulty?

Was the 30mins of driving unbroken? If you stop & start again even for a moment the time aspect starts from zero again even if the car was up to temp when you stopped the car. :?

Unbroken journeys. Before the issue I could check on my way to work - now I can’t sadly.
