new head unit looks *$*&(*$ ugly in a stock car. i have replaced my 6 speaker system with a Focal 3-way (165PS) system, and some 6x9 coax focal speakers in the rear cuby's.. best €800 spend on the car. the headunit has enough power to drive all those speakers.

I’m thinking of installing this instead of swapping out the head unit. (I like the look of the stock dash).SonnyA85 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 19, 2018 8:58 pm If you only have the 6 speaker system then replace the dodgy speaker and head unit.
Head unit makes a massive difference.
Speaker technology hasn't changed at all in like 50 years.
I upgraded the head unit and the amp but I have the 10 speaker system.
The BMW subs are stupidly difficult to drive. I wouldn't recommend them however my sound system does sound amazing with the upgrades I made and I already had the better sound system.
Plus with new head unit you get Bluetooth, dab radio, MP3, etc.

Will look into the cost of good quality speakers in the meantime.

If you are going aftermarket, I would go for a 3 way set of components in the front doors.
I love Focal speakers but everyone is different and has different budgets. JL, Hertz and Rainbow are good too.
Its all down to budget really.
To get the most out them you'll need to amp then up though.

Just to clarify.... there are no bass speakers in the front doors on any of the hifi options, just a mid and a tweeter. The woofer is down in the footwell. On the basic business cd setup there are no mids in the doors either (just a cover).

Yeah I need bass though
But don’t want it to the point where the windows are vibrating

I think my head unit looks good. A lot more modern than the stock system. Sure it doesn't look oem but I don't really care about that.vester86 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 19, 2018 10:09 pm new head unit looks *$*&(*$ ugly in a stock car. i have replaced my 6 speaker system with a Focal 3-way (165PS) system, and some 6x9 coax focal speakers in the rear cuby's.. best €800 spend on the car. the headunit has enough power to drive all those speakers.
