Why me!?!? Snapped carrier bolt

Post by Silverzedtom » Sun Mar 18, 2018 1:18 pm

Finished off my new discs and pads today - sort of anyway.

Went to torque up the carrier bolt on the rear and it snapped in half. Went in well by hand so it wasn’t cross threaded.

I read online that the torque spec for these is 110 Nm, anyone able to confirm?

Ill order some from the dealer and pop 8 new ones in so all carriers have new bolts.

Annoyed is an understatement.

I did the rear discs and pads on my son's R56 Mini. According to the workshop manual you have to replace the carrier bolts with new ones. Perhaps the Z4 is the same.

Correct. Just found it on TIS. How stupid can you get... did the fronts and assumed it was the same for the rears. Lesson learned

No worries - all done it. The bolt size is always a good indicator
Hope the remaining stud just comes out, which it should if it went in freely

These bolts stretch. You should replace them frequently if you also remove your calipers frequently. I changed mine a few weeks back whilst fitting new discs/pads. Got them from BMW Direct on Ebay.

Good to know they need replacing because of stretch.
