Rear Coil Spring creaking after replacement

Post by DanBate02 » Tue Mar 13, 2018 9:48 am

I know there are countless threads about the infamous rear coil spring problem that we all have to suffer.
But...

I found out after a service that the N/S rear spring had snapped. I bought a pair of new springs and replaced them both last night after reading threads on how easy it was. Thanks!

Now, the side which had the snapped spring is making a 'knocking' or 'creaking' noise over speed bumps and corners (I am taking it easy at the moment). It doesn't sound too bad but i have my concerns.

Should i wait a couple of days to see if it just needs to settle / bed any better? Could it be any other problem such as the shocks? (they seemed fine when i disconnected them)
Has anyone had a similar issue?

I believe so. I Tried wiggling them about and twisting them once put into position and they didn't move.
I Didn't replace the rubbers, but they seemed to be in ok condition.

Leave to bed in a bit, you could spray some lubricant to see if the squeak goes?

It could be a bush with a slight play in it since you’ve taken it off?

I'll try some lube.
Would i have to remove the spring again to check if the bushes are in good condition. I never thought about it at the time.

I'd give the rubber mounts at the top and bottom a good squirt with a silicone lubricant and leave it a week or so. I've just replace the front springs, shocks and top mounts on the wife's Espace and it was horribly clunky for about 3 days. It has totally settled now.

Okay, should i try to avoid any part with the lubricant (obviously the brakes)
Or should i just go to town and drench those SOB's?

If you spread lube at the top, it’ll work it’s way down the spring and into the other cup.

The noises seem to have stopped (I think the lube has sorted it)
Thanks for the advise guys!
